I'm glad you mentioned that there is a Quanjude in Shanghai. I'll have to check it out.

How would you ask to try it on and see how it fits?

I haven't heard too much use of zao shang hao in the office that I work in here in Shanghai, but I do hear a lot of ni hao's. I'm going to start using zao shang hao from now on and see what kind of reaction I get from the locals.

My girlfriend was joking with me about Shanghai girls, telling me that they are not able to walk on their own. She said you always see them leaning against their man for support while they walk.

I was very surprised when I saw a podcast that confirms that they are indeed high maintenence girls.

I enjoy the Dear Amber lessons as well, and have actually found them to be useful in some things I've experienced since moving here to Shanghai. I think the subject matter proves to be very useful.

I do, however, think that at times the lessons can go on a bit too long.

Anyway, that's just my opinion. Thanks for helping me to "get by" here in Shanghai!!!

I got a cell phone set up here in Shanghai for myself, and was immediately receiving text messages from advertisers. Seems the company I bought the phone from had my phone number sold to advertisers the minute I walked off with my new phone. How annoying!!!

Yes, the pollution in China is bad. I live in Shanghai, but have been to Beijing several times. I'm not quite sure how deep your concern is though. I mean, if you think you're going to have trouble breathing, that's not a worry. But, if you're just thinking you won't see too many clear skies, that's possible. I've also heard to not drink the tap water. Enjoy Beijing!!!

From my understanding the different situations that determine when you would say "Liang", or "Er" is not only when you are talking about large numbers, but also when you are talking about phone numbers(Er) as compared to amounts of money(Liang), or when saying what year it is (Er Ling Ling Ba). The word for the number one also changes depending on the context. For phone numbers(Yao), and for most everything else(Yi). So, basically how you would say the word for two is not solely determined by how big the number is. There are many other factors involved, but in my experience I have heard "Liang" used a lot more.

Well said!

I'm having a bit of trouble with the HTML on the page. I noticed someone else commented on it a while ago, so perhaps you're already aware of it. I'm using IE7. I noticed the person who commented on it before said something about it showing up fine in FireFox, but not in IE. Anyway, just to let you know.
