@Kostang - I think that could work!

A number of people have suggested this in the past, and a similar style show on our sister site, FrenchPod, was received really well ( http://frenchpod.com/lessons/channels/list/Voulez-vous+chanter+avec+moi%3F ).

I am not sure where it would fit in with the plans of the academic team for the year, but I'll certainly bring it up :-)

You need to be in China? That's a shame, I didn't realise (this must be the one and only advantage foreginers in China have over those outside China, in terms of internet access!).

Maybe ChinesePod needs to come up with its own musical offerings to make more Chinese songs accessible for learners...?

Kostang, here is the link:

http://www.google.cn/music/homepage?hl=zh-CN&tab=wU

Or, just go to google.cn and choose the 音乐 tab at the top.

You can pretty much start listening directly - and reading the lyrics in Chinese as they scroll on the screen. It's pretty cool.

Just came across this blog, "Chengduliving". It has some pretty cool insights into having babies in Chengdu (interesting even if you're not intending to do so!).

I ate 元宵 at lunchtime today! Love the chewy texture :-)

Had completely forgotten that it was 元宵节 until the fireworks started this evening. They are making sooo much noise here right now!!!

I think CNY would be a great time to visit Shanghai as a tourist, if reliable weather isn't too important a factor (it can be pretty miserable).

The city really is much more peaceful, empty of the entire migrant population and most of the expats. Shanghai looks great, too; lights and decorations down the entire stretch of HuaiHai lu, and Yu Gardens is fun with all the lanterns.

Plus, to experience the festival's fireworks is something special (as I type, I can hear firecrackers going off in my compound, even now!!).

Many restaurants and services do shut down, but there are always enough that stay open to cope.

I love Shanghai even more than usual during CNY :-)

Wow, five years old? Fantastic! I really hope your son has fun with ChinesePod. Below are some fun newbie (beginner) lessons that he might enjoy, which use songs to teach Chinese:
