I'm glad you answered that, I am too innured in the southern dialects.

August 1, 2009 at 2:00 AM@carlos_in_irvine, I believe that would be 一块蛋糕,because it's thick and bulky... open to corrections, though.

July 31, 2009 at 7:28 PMI knew about 棵 for trees, but not 颗 for seeds/grapes... sigh! Oh well, a character for next week's practice list.

July 28, 2009 at 7:46 PM老王的复仇本来是发律师信。但 我们现在发现老王在黑道工作。如果我是 “Bill" 我很恐怕!

杜老板 just doesn't sound mean enough to be a 黑社会 boss!
In real life, I'd agree with you. However, for Chinese movies (or radio dramas in this case), there is always the 20 year-old fashion model cum mafia boss demonstrating the real reason they call them "stiletto" heels.

July 17, 2009 at 7:29 PM@zhenlijiang, Actually, as a bit of a driveler myself, I'm not sure that some people didn't take this a bit too seriously. If they quit posting, it seems to me that the fault lies with their overreacting. It's no big deal; as Matt says, if you want to go off topic, just link to a different discussion. If it's interesting, someone will respond. If not...
Personally, as a bit of a driveler myself, I plan on using Margaret Thatcher's philosophy; when the moniker "Iron Lady" was applied to her, she embraced it. If the shoe fits and all that.

Question not related to language exchange, hence no pinyin/translation.
