Maxiewawa, I'm no Singapore expert but, according to a Singaporean friend of mine, English is the official language. Auntie Sue, what's a "trannie"?

Amber, thank you for the fluent insults. Seriously, whether you use this language or not, you need to know this stuff to recognize it in conversation. You never find any of this in textbooks... Or as the old MasterCard commercial went: 你好吗/"how are you... ¥20. 马屁精/"horsebutt-patting fairy?"... priceless.

Man, I can use this. So, in best cave Mandarin fashion, do "两面派的马屁精“ and “拍马屁的太监” work reasonably well as "two-faced brown noser" and "gutless brown noser?

RonInDC, For "blocks" I've always used “路口 ” or "lùkǒu". I've never had any problem being understood, though I would like to hear from more advanced users if there is a more colloquial term.

Sorry about that... hit the return key by mistake. I suppose there's something to be said about the whole idea of having an obsession or "thing" for a certain woman (Asian, blonde, whatnot). Still, there are those of us who have other motives. I only had two Asian girlfriends my whole life. I've just been stuck on the last one for 23 years! Also, I absolutely have to comment on one other stereotype: the docile oriental woman. Do people actually believe this? I mean, watch the Kung Fu movies; the typical plot is the bad guy kidnaps the girl, the hero gets beaten up by the bad guy, and girl gets tired of waiting around and beats up the villain for kidnapping her and the hero for taking so long. My advice to anyone in search of the "docile Asian woman" is, you might find one, but you will more likely find yourself starring in the new Kung Fu action flick "Exit the Dragon" and you're Dragon!!!
