November 20, 2007 at 11:23 AMHi John, Baijiu, as I understand it, is not rice wine; rather it is distilled from Chinese sorghum. In some brews, it also includes some barley or perhaps other grains. It has a very distinctive flavor. Am I wrong? Great Lesson! David

October 25, 2007 at 5:49 AMTraffice Deaths in USA in 2005 were about 43,000. Same year, deaths in China about 100,000. At that time, rate of cars to people in China was something like 1 car to 6 or 7, compared to 1-1.5 or 2 in USA. So death toll in China is pretty high. Biggest single problem is the lack of experience of drivers here. Very few drivers have more than 3 years experience. I drive every day, and have driven all over Zhejiang, Shanghai, Jiangsu. If you are a very careful driver, drive defensively, and suspend your preconceived notions of how traffic should work, then you should be okay. Expect the unexpected. Wear your seat belts - few here do, have a valid China license - foreign licenses will not work, and carry all your insurance and registration docs with you at all times. Drive carefully!

October 5, 2007 at 5:20 AMThis whole series is fantastic! Thanks for the great topics and valuable suggestions. I feel a bit better prepared as I stumble my way through the cultural landscape that is China. Keep up the good work, Amber. The show is a real treat.

June 18, 2007 at 10:19 AMThis is a good lesson, and in spite of my complaints, I figure I get my money's worth. It only figures out to be about USD $5.00 per week. Less than a couple cups of Starbucks! Keep up the good work.

June 17, 2007 at 12:50 AMI share Auntie's frustration; but realize that so far, my comments have no affect on the system. Rather, they seem to attract lots of user-defenders of Cpod. Fact is, though, if you take a look at the lesson discussion since V-3, about half the comments per lesson are tech problems related to the process of making the lessons work. I paid for this service - (renewed for year number 2 in May), to help to imporve my Chinese. I just want it to work the way it is promised to work in the first place. I like the Chinesepod concept, and will continue to use it because it works okay and I've paid for it. I do wish, though, that Cpod would work out the bugs of a new system before they put it is place - Perhaps a Beta test program as used by most software companies would be useful in the future. Anyway, Auntie, thanks for your comments. I agree with you, and applaud your persistence in reminding everyone of the problems that continue to haunt us. These not only annoy those of us who are loyal users, but ultimately limit the future success and growth of Chinesepod. I know that personally, I no longer recommend Cpod to my friends, because I cannot feel comfortable that they will be able to use the program without problems. Today's discussion proves my point.

June 14, 2007 at 6:12 AMLate delivery of lessons, and constant recurring problems. Lessons that download without titles, and downloads that take the better part of an hour, PDF files that have print that a blind man can read from across the room, and for those of us old school students who like to print the lessons and make notes, waste lots of paper in the printing. Can someone remind me what it is that is better about V3 - I am not trying to be difficult, but I never had these problems before. My library of lessons from the past year is a complete mess. In I Tunes, I have several different listings for Chinesepod, and the lessons seem to have a mind of their own. The only way I can find them is to go to recently added. Perhaps I am just technologically challenged, but I am sure i am not the only one.

May 9, 2007 at 7:45 AMThis reminds me so much of scenes from my favorite Korean soap operas. I really hate to admit it publicly, but I find this story line fascinating - keep it coming!
