January 14, 2011 at 5:26 AM除了文采,什么东西也可以使用“细腻”来形容?
严肃,严格,严重。。。简单来说什么区别?
顾得上vs。跟得上。。。简单来说什么区别?
大事不妙。。。
是不是四个字固定搭配呢?
能不能单说“大事"去说明同样的坏事?
如果单独的说"大事"肯定指着不太好的事?
大事不妙。。。出事,什么不一样?

November 3, 2010 at 12:35 PMHello all -
Quick question. Can you give me the vocab in chinese for the following words:
1. Jack-o-lantern (and is there a measure word for this?)
2. costume
3. work uniform
4. school uniform
5. please translate this sentence into chinese: "hey, you aren't wearing your normal work uniform today, you have a costume on. What made you pick that costume?"
p.s. a couple example sentences using the above vocab would be great!
Thanks!

February 9, 2010 at 5:44 AMGood lesson. I concur, what's the (verb) used with the (noun) toilet in Chinese to convey the meaning of "flush "? e.g 打马桶?

March 31, 2009 at 5:27 AMWow, talk about the lengthy thread... I was reading and reading actually to find the answer to bababardwan's follow up question, which I had as well based on the supplemental vocab... any chance we could have an answer? ; )
Not to interupt the name fun... I've taken the liberty of copy/paste of the question that has yet to be answered... Thanks in advance!

Pete,
btw Pete, from what you've said above, does that not mean that 签字 would have been the better of the two to use in this podcast? I think of an autograph as something you get from a celebrity and a signature as applying to everything else, but perhaps others use these terms differently.I note that 签名 was also the word chosen in the Ellie lesson "Leaving luggage with the hotel".Perhaps this elevates all tourists to celebrity status?

March 31, 2009 at 4:30 AMTwo more quesitons if anyone is still tuned into this commentary... in the supplementary vocab, they list 爷爷 - grandpa and 奶奶 - grandma... the dictionary though adds this is for the "paternal" grandparents...
I'm wondering is that strictly enforced, or can we use these phrases regardless of if it is the father's side or mother's side of the family?
Or is there a whole different way to reference grandparents on the mother's side? Thanks!

March 6, 2009 at 7:03 PMQuestion, would you use this phrase 我想你 outside of family relationships? Does it have a romantic overtone? Could it be used with a colleague in a professional way, say he's about to depart on an important trip and you want to express he will be missed...
What about comparing it to the phrase... 我想起你
What does adding the 起 indicate?
Thanks!
