March 31, 2011 at 2:23 AMTo giannis: Thanks. It does help. I "slept" on it, and somehow it was clearer.
I'm guessing that 着 (zhao2) has very specific uses? While 着 (zhe) is more general?
I saw something online that said that zhao2 着 is the successful result of a verb. Is this accurate? Kind of like 着火, to catch fire (if you want to call that successful).
Sorry for asking too many questions. I feel like that little kid who never stops asking "Why?" Thanks for your patience.

March 30, 2011 at 5:34 AMWhat a good time for this lesson! I, unfortunately for my roommate, snore. Like a pig I'm told. So it reinforces the nickname 猪. And lately, he's had to resort to throwing things and kicking me to wake me up. It's ok, though, we are best friends. :-) College life...
Are there more examples for 着? I don't quite get the difference between 睡着 and 睡觉.
And you said that 睡着 means "asleep"? I'm afraid I'll get confused and think "sleep-ing." I probably opened a can of worms just now.
I think I'll go listen to that Qingwen lesson dealing with 着 (zhe) before I go on with these questions....Great lesson. The snoring one I mean.
Thanks!

March 11, 2011 at 3:12 AMWhy do you keep saying that? Haha! Noticed my chinese friends were a bit open about saying things like that. No one's ever told me that it was a cultural difference. I just thought my friends were gross. Haha! Thanks for the lesson...I guess. :-)

March 2, 2011 at 4:35 PMHas anyone else heard of a funny way to say "BMW?" I've heard people making a little joke of saying 别摸我 Bié Mō Wǒ - Don't touch me!
Posted on: No Hot Water
February 22, 2011 at 6:58 AMWhen I was in China, I had no problem in the hotels with hot water. But there was this one place where there was never enough toilet paper. It was "free" but we basically had to go to the front desk and ask for something whenever we needed to use the facilities.
Also in some parts of South America, I know they kind of ration water and electricity. They shut both off in different parts of the city for three hours everyday. The kicker is that it isn't the same three hours, and they never tell you when they're going to do it. So you could be in the middle of your shower when....

February 8, 2011 at 8:52 PMI've heard people from Yunnan can really hold their liquor. I've had a female classmate from drink me under the table, and I can hold my own with Russians (no offense).

February 8, 2011 at 8:50 PMWhen I was in Shanghai staying with my girlfriend's parents, the father would come home for lunch, and we (he made me drink too) always had a cup or two of baijiu AND a big bottle of beer. I was left feeling fuzzy wuzzy while he would go back to work as if nothing happened.
I don't think it tastes bad, but I always make a face when I drink it.

March 31, 2011 at 4:57 AMThis is the conversation with my friend/roommate on Facebook.
Me: 我打呼噜声音太大了。那你先睡吧。等你睡着了我再睡。
Him: 那样更糟糕,因为睡着了还会被打醒。
