Posted on: What's in a name?
January 30, 2011 at 9:09 AMMy name is Marcoantonioreaoiusdfknfasdkjfalsdkjf......(really long name, I blame my parents). But it's basically Marco and Antonio put together. "Antonio" I've been told already has a set transliteration - 安东尼奥。I've seen disagreements with "Marco" - but most use 马克. Sometimes, it's been 马口 (horse mouth).
Nicknames: 小马. That's the normal one. But out of nowhere someone (a girl) started calling me 猪猪. Don't know why...
To make things worse, I was talking about Spiderman 蜘蛛侠(zhīzhūxiá), but screwed up the pronunciation and said zhūzhūxia. So now, whenever I do something "awesome" my Chinese friends call me 猪蛛侠。:-/

Can 注册 be used as to register for classes/courses and to register your car?

January 26, 2011 at 7:30 AMI just saw my friend do it. I mean, just now. He had a whole technique to it. With a mechanical pencil, he had the lead at exactly the same length on each pencil, and wrote my name. He said it was "easy."

January 26, 2011 at 5:36 AMI used to hate doing homework. When I was little, I would pretend to fall asleep to get out of doing it, but after a while it didn't work b/c my father would just throw me into a cold shower.
And my HW situation at school wasn't good either. The teacher would ask if I did it, and I would quietly say no. It got so bad that my teachers and parents would talk or send notes to each other everyday. Then there was no escape! I grew out of it in middle school, though.
Do Chinese students have to do big projects, like the science projects we do in the states, with those big cardboard display things that fold? Or is it just mind numbing copying characters?

January 21, 2011 at 7:14 AMI've been laughing for days at the "ARE YOU AFRAID OF PAIN?" line, and the "don't jam it into the arm."

January 19, 2011 at 8:31 AMI gotta say, I really appreciate the cultural points in this lesson. I also liked how this one is more formal than the Elementary lesson, which is more personal.
How are wakes and funerals different in China than the States? With Latin people, people tend to wear bright colors, and make it more like a celebration of the person's life, rather than mourning his/her death (at least where I'm from).

January 19, 2011 at 3:41 AMThanks for the advice on keeping phones charged.
To call someone, I am familiar with 打电话给他.
But you use two different ways to say the same thing in this dialogue. Could you explain the pattern?
Thanks!
