June 21, 2007 at 2:40 AMAuntie, I also wanted to say that if someone from cpod would correct when we write in chinese, then I could be tempted to write as well. Otherwise I don't see the point. That could easily be done. I know they can delete posts, as I've already seen. Somebody had a blank post, but that's gone. We have the technology, I wish we could use it.

June 21, 2007 at 2:36 AMHi Auntie! I looked into that Japanese site. Maybe this weekend I'll sign up for the free trial. It's about 2 years since I had my Japanese class, hopefully it will come back. I also really wish that we had a CantonesePod. I have a few Cantonese language CD's and a Mandarin - Cantonese Vocabulary CD. I forgot most of what I did learn. Cantonese is a really beautiful sounding language to me. And to think at one time I could'nt tell the difference. I haven't even had a chance to listen to the mp3 file on global warming yet, just posting here takes a lot of time!!! but a lot of fun!!!

June 21, 2007 at 12:35 AMYou are absolutely right! When you are in china. it's a completely different ball game! i don't have the luxury of speaking to chinese on a daily basis! But while I'm in the US, I better ignore as much bad chinese as possible and concentrate on Good Chinese!!! Especially while I'm learning!!! Apparently Changye is Japanese but is living in China. And as was said his chinese is top rate, so that would qualify him to write in chinese here!! He passed that test!!

June 21, 2007 at 12:01 AMThere is no way to avoid offending somebody when talking about this, I noticed Lantian is listed as elementary. Perhaps anyone that really wants to practice writing chinese can do so in the newbie or elementary section where really bad chinese is forgiveable!!! Not here!!! I'm told there is a forum for those that feel a need to write chinese. Just recently I was in a class that became really obvious to me that nobody there received the really basic training. I mentioned before that everybody in that class learned from each other. The word 'xue' was pronounced like 'shay'. The teacher never corrected anyone. She told me that she didn't want to hurt anybody's feelings because some people cannot say it right no matter how hard they try. There was also an ABC chinese in that class that would always say 'zhao ..... something else here' instead of 'zao...' for good morning. I could never understand what he was saying. He looked it up in a dictionary, then said 'zhao means to look for' and that he should have used 'zao' The next week again he used 'zhao.... ' and even to the teacher. He learned it wrong and apparently it won't be easy to correct it, maybe impossible to correct it!!! I didn't stay in that class much longer because it was obvious to me these people will never be understood on the street, Just because it appears the teacher understands them, doesn't mearn anybody else will!!!

June 20, 2007 at 11:41 PMfranch I don't want to learn from Lantian or man2toe mistakes. I'm here to learn good chinese. Unless I'm assured that the person is a native chinese like changye appears to be, or a certified cpod employee, forget it!! i've spent 4 years going to chinese classes at up to 4 schools, I know how it important it is to learn it from professionals. This is especially true here. A lot of people have never had professional training at least in the basics !!

June 20, 2007 at 3:45 AMAuntie, It's time for bed here. A lot of times I dream of the most significant thing of the day, I'm just wondering how my sub conscience will process sandpaper!!!

June 20, 2007 at 2:44 AMJohn, I read your bio, and see that you studied Japanese. I had one semester in Japanese The chinesepod way would be an excellent way to do a JapanesePod. Ofcourse I'm also interested in Cantonese. To me Cantonese sounds like the real Chinese!! And Vietnamese too!! French would be good too. I used to live in Quebec and was forced to learn French reluctantly!!! I've tried them all, I just need something like chinesepod to build on what I already know!

June 20, 2007 at 2:13 AMthe sandpaper guy really needs to get a life!!! I wonder if chinesepod gives anger management classes. Most large companies do in this country!!! I registered for the 15 day free trial of SpanishSense. I wasn't impressed with the Advanced. Grant it, I can get along in Spanish, but the vocabulary introduced was really just spanish equivalents of english words. I can't believe they did it that way!! The lady there is no JennyZhu! I think it may be impossible to find anyone that even comes close to Jenny. It might be worth it to give Jenny a crash course in Spanish. John & Jenny really do make the perfect team.

June 19, 2007 at 11:45 PMHi Auntie, I haven't had so much fun in a long time. This place was so boring before. Ofcourse it's at somebody else's expense, but anybody that's in the public's eye should be able to take it!! Just like politicians!! I still have a hard time believing that sandpaper guy though!!!!

June 21, 2007 at 3:11 AMAuntie, no I didn't watch the "Infernal Affairs", I guess it was on TV?. Cantonese sounds a lot like Taiwanese. They have bopomofo instead of pinyin. But I think that is a better way to learn, at least you get to learn sounds not based on english letters. Cantonese has more tones, but if learned by listening and then only related to characters might be the best way to learn. I know that I learned pinyin before I learned the tones, which is the opposite of what happens in China. Which may be detrimental to ever being able to speak Mandarin properly. I absolutely need to be in a Chinese environment to correct this!!!
