Posted on: What do Foreigners Like?
May 1, 2010 at 11:11 PMapi, I completely agree with your assessment of the situation in America. I
Speaking for myself, because of the way Americans look at the word foreigner, I hate being called laowai or waiguoren. I have learned to deal with it because I have to. Sometimes for a joke I do call myself yangguizi. Chinese think that is funny.

Posted on: How do you say...?
April 29, 2010 at 10:25 AMI don't have Chinese on this computer, but let me throw out one more thing. 'yao' is a completely acceptable way of saying 'I want it'. e.g.:
p1 ni yao bu yao?
p2 yao
This doesn't work with 'xiang'
Anyway, I agree with Jen. You'll hear yao more often on the streets, but if you're having a fancy-shmants dinner, 'xiang' is probably the way to go.

April 29, 2010 at 5:53 AMdarkstar,
This isn't a precise answer to your question, but just thought I would let you know that from my experience:
要 = want (depending on the situation)
想 = would like (depending on the situation)
These two translations are very reliable when followed by a verb.
Now, this is where I might get into trouble. I think Connie didn't suggest you say 你想我说什么? because 想 has another meaning, which is 'to think'. In this case I think 想 would carry this meaning. (Notice 想 is followed by a noun here.)
I actually would like some clarification here myself.
