I've never heard the term Trekker in my entire life.  Probably because I am the sort of fan who just watches the shows/movies and doesn't get involved with community that surrounds them.  Trekkie doesn't sound dimunitive to me.  I think no matter what, some people look down on sci-fi fans, but I take the opinion that we are right and they are wrong.

Yeah, I guess we all are a bit.  I think being hooked up to a feeding tube.  Now that is efficient.  Yikes...  Tanget time.

I don't get why the Asians would be more advanced.  They just use two sticks!  Seems a bit primative to me if I really think about it (which normally I wouldn't).  It would be amusing to see someone eat a steak with a pair of chopsticks.  Oh, I just thought of something.  Most Chinese also use a spoon along with chopsticks.  That puts them at three.  Anyway, I guess she is just a little bit chauvinistic.

This summer I ate at a table with a Scottish couple and two Canadians.  I noticed that they didn't do the fork/knife switch.

I can't help but chime in.  I come from one of the very few American towns that the largest ethnic group is Dutch.  We have windmills, tulip festivals and wooden shoes.  I would have to say that in general, the residents of my hometown don't like to shell out cash as much as other American places (but I don't think of it as 小气 but rather 节约).  So, despite not being PC to say so, I would have to say that 'going Dutch' is representative of the habits of the Dutch decendants I know.  I, even though not having a bit of Dutch blood in me, happen to be quite 骄傲 of my Dutch-节约-ness.  After all, 省钱就是赚钱.

That is stupid.  I just thought I would mention a lot of people work here on travel visas.  Every few months they go to Hong Kong to renew.  Just thought I would mention it as an option...
