Raygo,

I brought two videos with me to China: Zardoz and The Star Wars Christmas Special.  You are my hero for mentioning that (and for mentioning King Crimson).

@raygo

I seem to recall that show, but I never saw it.  It's a shame it didn't work out.

Regardless, if that be the case, cpod, get back on that horse!  Writing is important.  I think there must be a way to make it interesting for poddies who are scared of the 汉字 boogeyman and those who mistakenly believe that reading and writing isn't important.

PS: I apologize if I'm too assertive with my opinions.  It's only because I love this site.  If I didn't, I wouldn't even be here to say anything.

@changye

Sort of adding to whay you said, perhaps this is the original reason why Chinese people never say 谢 by itself.  As it stands now, it seems to me Chinese people are really saying, "Thanks, thanks," but because it has been so established, we don't think about it.  I do recall, however, when I first started studying Mandarin, I thought it was peculiar.

@jennyzhu

I think this is useful.  I have been studying Mandarin for awhile now.  Even so, I found one pronunciation problem that I didn't realize I was making.  It was minor, but I can remember one time that a Chinese person didn't understand the word I was saying, and now looking back I can see why.  Thanks cpod so much.

And to cpod in general:

In all humility, I just want to mention again that the next series should be the Chinese radical series, and since Pete seems fond of radicals, it would be ideal if he was involved (although, no pressure).  A video series showing stroke order would be cool too.  It would just have to show the most common strokes.  cpod is so forward thinking, I must confess that I am a little surprised how you guys have ignored the topic of characters.  Please don't limit yourself to oral Chinese.

Got a question.

If any of you beginners want to find a language partner, by all means do it.  Be careful of one thing, though.  Some partners try to make the language exchange slanted too much towards English, i.e. when it is time to practice Chinese, the other person will use any little excuse to use English.
