Hi guys! I'm planning to take up Mandarin or Cantonese studies in college. Are there any good schools in 台灣 ,China, US? Are there any scholarships available for Filipinos to study in Taiwan(specifically), or US, New Zealand?

BTW, what do you call the course for Mandarin studies /Cantonese studies?

that is scholarships from the chinese government and they offer a lot, a certain number for each country. Application is quite difficult to I hear but the chances are quite good.

Do a lot of Filipinos apply for China or Taiwan?

Hi Hitokiri,

Honestly, I think most of the people from Philippines who go to China and/or Taiwan to study are Chinoys.

Firstly, usually it is Chinoys who have the money to finance their trip and stay there, as well as the luxury to not have to work right after graduation (a lot of Filipinos have to work right out of College or some even after High School).

I have friends (all of them Chinoys) who have gone to both China and Taiwan, but most of them are only 6 month or 1 year stints, not the full 4 years. When they come back to Manila usually you can see their Chinese has gone from 0 to 60 since they have been so immersed there.

I have a friend who took his Masters in a university in Xiamen and now works as a Filipino-English-Chinese translator for the Philippine embassy in Beijing.

So, to answer your question, I don't think there are a lot of students from Philippines that do take their bachelors in China, but a lot of them do go to China to study Chinese on much shorter stints, such as 6 months or 1 year.
