March 29, 2019 at 3:46 AMA very interesting question! I did some research, and some people say it's because a lot of idioms come from a Chinese poem type called 四言绝句 which is made up of 4 characters per line. We have other kinds of idioms that are more than 4 characters, we call them proverbs, hope this helps:)

March 29, 2019 at 3:14 AMThe word zhuan3gong1 is used in HK quite often, in mainland or in Taiwan, you'd hear "转职"(zhuan3zhi2) more often:)

March 29, 2019 at 3:13 AMThank you so much for your feedback and suggestions. Just want to remind you that while the written pinyin is zhu3yi4, you'd hear people pronounce it as zhu2yi4 in real life:)

March 29, 2019 at 3:10 AMHi Jasmine! Good question, in written text, the correct pinyin for 好主意 is hao3zhu3yi4. But you would hear people pronounce it as hao3zhu2yi4 in real life because we're used to saying that. I know it's kind of tricky, but actually a lot of the standard tones do not reflect our real usage, you'd have to practice more with real people to get better tones:)
