Yes this one is a bit more tricky; especially with the usage of 给. Just listen the dialogue throughout the week to refresh what you learnt.

It's a special lesson series designed for users who want these kinds of topics covered. The best part about ChinesePod is that you can listen to any lesson that intrigues you and each lesson is self-contained.

A good rule of thumb is to listen to things that also interest you in your native language. If you have no interest in Politics in your native language, it's likely you will have zero interest hearing it talked about in Chinese.

The clue is in the title. It's a game designed to get you laughing and learning laughing. ChinesePod has never taken itself too seriously - that's part of the charm. Listen to the regular lessons for a more traditional learning experience.

It's a contraction of two words: 控制管理

  • 控制 kòngzhìcontrol / to exercise control over / to contain

  • 管理 to manage

Here's a BaiDu definition: http://baike.baidu.com/view/1407820.htm

Re: the English for Tannoy, I thought that sounded a bit colloquial as I was writing it. It turns out it's a Scottish loudspeaker and PA manufacturer, founded in 1926. I guess it's one of those brands like Hoover/Coke/Thermos, that has become "nounified".

dào has many meanings, most of them being a classifier of long thin things (rivers etc), or for things in the shape of a line. It's also a MW for questions in an exam, courses in a meal, and steps in a process. In this case, it is a meal measure word.

Yeah my bad. The regular audio lesson should be fine though.

I've done some minor editing tweaks and re-uploaded it. The small changes should be available in the next 30mins or so;

Changes:

  • Removed English from 1st dialogue listen.
  • Added ENG to 2nd dialogue listen
  • Highlighted SIMP CHINESE in Grey
