January 27, 2016 at 4:09 AMYes, BillJefferys just gave a good explanation. In general, tone sandhi is a spoken rule and not written, but it's possible that because this is a lower level, the tones were amended to show how it should be spoken correctly.
Be sure to watch the Say it Right series for in-depth and easy to follow explanation of these tone change rules.
I recommend this lesson, but it's best to start from lesson 1 and work your way through.

The videos only have simplified, since having both, as well as pinyin and English makes for a very messy screen and very little space. Most people who study traditional characters find it easier to recognise simplified rather than the other way around, and they can also use the traditional notes while listening/watching, so it's not a big issue.
Most Taiwanese people watch a lot of streamed content from online (illegal) streaming services, so are able to read simplified without any issue.
In other news, Netflix just went international, so lots of popular shows are showing traditional subtitles which means I get to watch JessicaJones/House of Cards and practice my reading.Im looking forward to the dubbed versions if they every come.
There are no simplified subtitles as yet since it's probably blocked in the Mainland, but I'm surprised since there are so many people living overseas and it's very simple to convert the two systems.

January 25, 2016 at 11:41 PMThanks for your support. I guess that's the nature of regional accents. Luckily a well pronounced Taiwan accent is not too dissimilar to a Shanghai accent. If you listen to the older lessons you can pinpoint who is from shanghai, and it's quite different to a Beijing accent which you'll hear more often with Popup Chinese :)

January 25, 2016 at 10:05 AM对我说来 literally means "as far as I'm concerned". You can check old lessons from 2006+ for other lessons with this phrase. It's just a common pattern of Chinese. If you want to be super formal you could use classical Chinese and say 于我而言. We make every effort to highlight any language that is idiomatic or largely different.

January 25, 2016 at 9:50 AMThe sentence audio from the grammar section are pre-populated and were made a few years ago. It is quite a challenge to change the audio for those parts. The easiest thing to do is use an audio editor to trim the bits you don't want. I recommend Audacty since it's free, or Garageband if on mac. Thanks for getting in touch.
