@ thebigpicture Yes, 里is 3rd tone. And in 哪里, where two third tones are together, the 哪 becomes a second tone and the 里 remains a third (na2li3). Tone combinations get tricky. Check out John's website (sinosplice.com) for some good tools to help in that department. Also, bostonphil is right. To really master a language you have to think in it. After 13 months of immersion I'm just now starting to do that habitually. =)

Not to mention that (perhaps more so here in the East than in the West) going out for drinks is a very important factor in negotiating and "sealing the deal" in the business environment.
