Actually I too really appreciate Ellie lessons these days and usually always study them, seems like there's always something new to learn. (I didn't know the Chinese for 'picnic' or 'ham' before going through this!) I think it's also really nice to have a study period where you actually know almost everything and that gives you the feeling you're really making progress - lol.

I'd be willing to bet it's not coincidence mate! Anyway another good one is:

田野 tiányě = open country, farmland and fields.

Chūntiān lái le,tiányě lǐ chōngmǎn le shēngjī。

Spring has come and the fields are full of life.

Western mothers say that too, despite modern concepts of gender equality. I'd say in China people are generally less concerned about creating the pretense that boys and girls can be treated the same.

拼图 is an interesting term, but I think we have to be clear it doesn't refer to any kind of puzzle toy (e.g. a Rubik cube) but specifically a 'picture puzzle', like a jigsaw (拼图游戏)?

Ha ha, that's the trouble with Chinese though, isn't it? There often just is no 'reasonable translation'! Or at least creating one is an art in itself. However I'd go with something like: 'I'm hanging on a lifeline, living and dying again and again'.

I think you'd have to use 醉 for that. To say someone is drunk (alcohol intoxication) one says 喝醉, so if someone is... err, stoned (marijuana intoxication), perhaps you'd say 吸醉.

e.g.

The Scuba Site

If there are other street savvy Chinese expressions for this, I'd be curious to hear them.

Zài wǒ niánshào de shíhou, shēnbiān de rén shuō bù kěyǐ liúlèi

Zài wǒ chéngshúle yǐhòu, duì jìngzi shuō wǒ bù kěyǐ hòuhuǐ

Zài yíge fànwéi bùtíng de páihuái, xīn zài shēngmìngxiàn shàng bùduàn de lúnhuí

Rén zài rìrì-yèyè chēngzhe miànjù shuì, wǒ xīnlìjiāocuì

Míngmíng liúlèi de shíhou, què wàngle yǎnjing zěnyàng qù liúlèi

Míngmíng hòuhuǐ de shíhou, què wàngle xīnli zěnyàng qù hòuhuǐ

Wúxíng de yālì yāde wǒ hǎo lèi, kāishǐ juéde hūxī yǒu yīdiǎn nánwéi

Kāishǐ mànmàn xièxià fángwèi, mànmàn hòuhuǐ, mànmàn liúlèi

Nánrén kū ba kū ba kū ba, bù shì zuì, zài qiáng de rén yǒu quánlì qù píbèi

Wēixiào bèihòu ruò zhǐ shèng xīnsuì, zuò rén hébì jīngde nàme lángbèi

Nánrén kū ba kū ba kū ba, bù shì zuì, chángchang kuòbié yǐjiǔ yǎnlèi de zīwèi

Jiùsuàn xiàyǔ yěshì yī zhǒng měi, bùrú hǎohāo bǎwò zhège jīhuì, tòngkū yīhuí

(Bù shì zuì)
