February 17, 2010 at 4:57 AM呵呵，I'd guess that's quite possibly an out-of-context example of the kind of sarcastic line used by quarrelling couples, but I can tell you that some Chinese ladies have told me that there's 2 simple rules for marriage in China (which every husband has to accept):
1. The wife is always right.
2. Even when she's wrong, she's right.

February 16, 2010 at 2:50 PMIn China it's considered to be very lucky if a girl asks you the way to Starbucks, but oddly, it's unlucky if she asks you to take her there. (You know how expensive those places are, right?) In the dialogue the guy who gets asked for directions is really nervous at first, (notice the stammering), but then his friend congratulates him when the girl realises he's a tight-fisted dope and leaves.

February 12, 2010 at 2:01 AMIs it worth discussing the perhaps tricky issue of when to take seriously an invitation to 《来我家玩儿》?
Since first coming to China it seems I have several times made Chinese friends and a few students feel confused and uncomfortable by inviting them to visit me at home. One day one of them did explain to me that if a Chinese person issued such an invitation, "they would not mean it."
Seems to me this could be considered another 'cultural difference' foreigners in China should be more aware of.

I thought 电视剧 referred specifically to TV dramas. In English when we say TV programs, surely that can mean anything on TV, e.g. documentaries, chat shows, game shows, etc. ?
