May 13, 2013 at 8:47 AMI had never heard the phrase "going dutch" until I came to China. I think its one of those dated phrases that Chinese pick up from their english textbook with dated phrases like "to be frank."
With friends we would say we would "split the bill". Though unlike in China it usually wouldn't need to be said because the assumption is that friends (except for special occasions or circumstances) don't usually treat each other to meals.
It also confused me when I first heard AA because I thought of alcoholics annonymous. But that chinese article posted by tingyun about it makes it much more clear why its used.

May 6, 2013 at 10:31 AMyea its a little tough to listen to so many particles in a lesson but it is important to learn to get a sense of the natural cadence and flow when communicating and listening to others speak in Chinese

May 4, 2013 at 11:35 AMI think 还是 in this context is in response to the guy speaking English and suggest an alternative. Sort of like "how about" or "instead" but I think is best translated as "should" in English in this context.
应该 I believe is more like suggesting someone to do something like in the next sentence 那你应该去美国 - then you should go to the US.
