February 21, 2014 at 1:38 AMI've said the same thing about Vera on qingwen podcasts. It drives me crazy and does little to help one's listening skills.

February 14, 2014 at 2:23 AMI agree, when I lived in Guangxi province, a lot of people there couldn't pronounce the "sh" sound. instead it would come out sound like "si." Standard Mandarin, like a standard in most languages, is a myth. It doesn't exist.

February 13, 2014 at 2:06 AMyea, but its not obligatory to have pocket tissues on you all the time because public bathrooms have toilet paper and restaurants provide you with napkins in the US unlike in china

February 24, 2014 at 1:57 AMThe format of Intermediate level, as i understand it, in chinesepod has been the chinese host speaks almost always in chinese and the non chinese host speaks in english and sometimes translates what the chinese host says.
That formula gets ruined if the chinese host is speaking a lot of english and hurts those trying to improve their chinese listening skills.
