I'm sure in the Renting a Bike episode, 怎么租 was used to ask how much to rent a bicycle. It was explained that 怎么 can be used to ask the price, not just "how to do something". I'm a bit curious myself about its usage, because I've never heard anyone using it like so.

April 29, 2009 at 1:34 AMThe episode on "renting bicycle" said one can use 怎么 to ask the price of something instead of 多少钱. So, is it common to ask something like this in a restaurant:
宫保鸡丁怎么卖 ?

April 28, 2009 at 5:13 AMWill definitely try to order 宫保鸡丁 when I visit Shanghai this coming July. Anyone know where is a nice restaurant to try this and other nice food in Shanghai?

April 21, 2009 at 6:16 AMI reckon the gender imbalance can be mostly solved if the government changes the 1-child policy to a 1-son policy. This way:
50% of couples will still only have 1 child (son),
25% will have 1 girl followed by 1 boy,
12.5% will have 2 girls followed by 1 boy,
6.25% will have 3 girls followed by 1 boy, etc
The will be a minute but finite percentage who will have lots of girls and no boy.
End result:- lots of girls for the boys, and the birth rate is still below replacement.

April 20, 2009 at 8:29 PMThanks for introducing ctrip. We're planning a trip to Shanghai in July. Ctrip will definitely help us find a hotel in a specific area we need to go to.

April 3, 2009 at 5:38 AMI supposed "给你点儿颜色看看" (show you some colors?) is a generic phrase used to intimidate people? In what situations can it be used?

March 29, 2009 at 11:53 PM破 is far more flexible than its presented in this lesson. It can be combined with the other words and it acts as a verb, like so:
破坏, 破碎
It can be prefixed to a noun in some cases, like so:
破产 (to go bankrupt)

or
用网抓到鱼?

May 5, 2009 at 3:38 AMI thought 送 is only used if you send someone to a place where you are not going yourself, i.e. send someone to the entrance then drive off. However, in the case when you are accompanying someone to see a doctor in a hospital, shouldn't 陪 be used?
Can we replace 工资 with 薪水 in the dialogue?
I think there is another usage of 了, as in 了解.
