It's so weird to be somewhere (Puerto Vallarta) where there are no Chinese people! Even when I holiday in Vancouver, there are tons of Chinese friends around. I feel weird!! Good thing I have ChinesePod to look at, hehe.

Hi MexicoBob, Ah true hospitality, baking someone a cake! Sweet! Yes i will tell everyone all about it. So far, I know that its a lot more peaceful than Shanghai, and I like tacos better than noodles ;) meilani, The contest on the TV show we saw was only for foreign students in China. However, I will do some research for you and see if there are others. I know there are also some singing competitions in Chinese, as well as other entertainment type contests that foreigners can enter. You definitely don't have to be a native English speaker. The contest we saw had foreigners from all over the world as participants.

Hi Bazza, I think it largely depends on the time of day. Technically, you can force anything onto that car. But, whether you want to is another thing. But if it's not rush hour, it's better. However, taxis are quite inexpensive here... I would say... just take a taxi.

hi MikeinEwshot, oh my, how embarrassing... i guess I should have checked with John the linguist before i started throwing out technical terms. OK, sorry about that... well, whatever the correct term is, i can say that the Chinese 't' is less aspirated than the English 't'. hehe. And remember, Dear Amber is your fun podcast, not necessarily your language learning one ;)... again, sorry about that ;)

OK Lantian, Subway cross-training! I was gut-laughing reading that. See... You should have let me interview you for DA when you came to visit!! I bet you're regretting it now. Think of all the wisdom of Lantian thought you could have imparted.

TaiPan, Actually, in summer, the 'Someone needs a shower' lesson comes to mind as well. Not just cause some people do need a shower. You feel like you need a shower after a subway ride, too.
