September 3, 2007 at 7:33 AMHi Jeff, Your understanding is correct. 厉害 (lìhai) Can have both meanings: "terrible; devastating" and "amazing, awesome; impressive", it all depends on the context. So, your example sentence could definitely use 厉害 (lìhai): 你考了95分,太厉害了。 (Nǐ kǎo le 95 fēn, tài lìhai le.)

September 3, 2007 at 6:53 AMhi andrewm, 这里不是有厕所吗? zhèli bú shì yǒu cè suǒ ma? is a little stronger in tone than: 这里没有厕所吗? zhèli méiyǒu cè suǒ ma? The feeling both sentences have is that you feel its obvious there should be one, and you are questioning someone as to this.

September 3, 2007 at 6:51 AMivy0, Yes, you could say: 我方便一下 Wǒ fāngbiàn yīxià 我去方便一下 Wǒ qù fāngbiàn yīxià if the context of using the bathroom was already known. Another polite, and maybe slightly more common way to ask would just be to say: 我去一下洗手间。(Wǒ qù yīxià xǐshǒujiān.)

September 3, 2007 at 6:45 AMhi goulniky, There are a ton of little places to get it done. The biggest problem may be getting the quality you want. the ones i got look great, but upon closer examination i found that the spacing is off in one place, arg. That being said, they are super cheap. Like about $6 US for a few hundred cards.

September 3, 2007 at 6:38 AMHi AZERDocMom, Yes, you're right, 快八点了 (Kuài 8 diǎn le.) means 'it's almost 8 o'clock. But if you say 都八点了 (Dōu bā diǎn le) it means it's already 8 o'clock. :)

September 3, 2007 at 3:44 AMhi tusconmicheal, brian85 answered your question really well. I will add about your question regarding 都 (dōu) and 已经 (yǐjīng), that yes, you could also use 已经 (yǐjīng) for this sentence in the dialogue: 都八点了! Dōu bā diǎn le! 已经八点了! Yǐjing bā diǎn le!
