August 13, 2007 at 9:38 AMhi zhenzhunaicha, If you meet a 难闻 (nánwén) ("stinky") person, you could offer this hint: 你身上有点味道。 (Nǐ shēnshang yǒudiǎn wèidao.) Your body has a slight odour. I guess that's not that subtle, though ;)

Actually, 你好吗 (Nǐhǎo ma) is never used by Chinese speakers. 你好 (Nǐhǎo) is the common greeting, and, as mentioned in the podcast, if you want to ask how someone is you can say: 怎么样？ (Zěnmeyàng?) 最近过得怎么样？ (Zuìjìn guò de zěnmeyàng?) Although I swear too that teachers have taught me 你好吗 (nǐhǎo ma). It may just be due to them caving under the pressure of waiguorens incessently searching for a suitable equivalent to "how are you".
