August 20, 2007 at 5:56 AMhi wildyaks, Yes, that's right. You can use 本来 (běnlái) in combination with 以为 (yǐwéi). Your sentence is almost perfect, just a little tweak: 本来我以为我的汉语很不错。但最近我发现还是太差了。 (Běnlái wǒ yǐwéi wǒ de Hànyǔ hěn bùcuò. Dàn zuìjìn wǒ fāxiàn háishi tài chà le.) But, that being said, if you can write that sentence, I think your Chinese is excellent!

Love takes time ;) 绑走 (bǎng zǒu) mean to tie someone up, then take them away 绑架 (bǎngjià) means specifically to kidnap, to abduct So, your sentence is not wrong, but it doesn't necessarily mean the the person was kidnapped. Your sentence would mean that the person was tied up and taken away: 我以為你被外星人綁走了 我以为你被外星人绑走了。 (Wǒ yǐwéi nǐ bèi wàixīngrén bǎng zǒu le.)
