August 24, 2007 at 2:05 AMhi wande, In the sentence: 他每次数学考试都考得很差. Tā měi cì shùxué kǎoshì dōu kǎo de hěn chà 考试 (kǎoshì) is a noun. So in this sentence, 数学考试 (shùxué kǎoshì) is "math test"

August 24, 2007 at 2:00 AMhi user22629, The difference with the 打死我的 is that that 的 (de) is part of the 会......的 (huì......de) structure: 我爸妈会打死我的。 Wǒ bà mā huì dǎsǐ wǒ de. 会......的 (huì......de) adds emphasis. So, it is optional, you can use it or not, depending on how emphatic you want to be!

August 22, 2007 at 9:46 AMHi Mike in Jubei, Your first three sentences, yes, they can use this 得 (de) structure (the 得 (de) comes after the verb and is followed by a complement (V + de + Adj): 他跑得很快。 Tā pǎo de hěn kuài. He runs quickly. 他说得很慢。 Tā shuō de hěn màn. He speaks slowly. 他开得很烂。 Tā kāi de hěn làn. She drives terribly. For your second batch of sentences, we must use the other 地 (de) structure (the 地 (de) comes before verbs in adverbial constructions (Adj + de + V): 她呆呆地看着。 Tā dāidāi de kàn zhe. She is staring blankly. 她无声地哭泣。 Tā wúshēng de kūqì. She is crying silently.

August 22, 2007 at 3:35 AMhi theamazon, Sometimes 商量 (shāngliang) and 讨论 (tǎolùn) are interchangeable. However, One difference is that 商o量 (shāngliang) is usually a discussion with a definite outcome in view. 讨论 (tǎolùn) doesn't necessarily have an outcome. It can simply be a chance for the parties to talk about their views on something.
