April 25, 2007 at 5:27 AMHi idiotsavant (feels funny calling someone that!), In Chinese, when speaking about something or someone in a vehicle, it is more common to use (vehicle)+上 (shang), rather than 里 (lǐ). AZERDocMom, The correct pinyin for the expression you mention "to kill" is 杀死 (shāsǐ). Walter and Anne, The 的 (de) in our sentence: 老婆会杀死我的. (...lǎopo huì shāsǐ wǒ de.) it is a modal particle, expressing mood rather than any grammar structure. Mastering its use comes with time, and over time, as you listen to native speakers you will get the hang of it. ~amber :D
