May 14, 2008 at 2:32 AMhi nuevacarpeta, This 就 (jiù) is part of the sentence pattern: 一....就... (yī _____ jiù ________) Which means: As soon as _______ happens, then ________ happens. So in your example sentence: 一看他的样子就知道他心虚了. (Yī kàn tā de yàngzi jiù zhīdao tā xīnxū le.) As soon as I saw his manner I knew he had a guilty conscience.

May 14, 2008 at 3:52 AMhi changye, Here are a couple examples to help explain the difference between 继续 (jìxù) and 持续 (chíxù): 我不想继续呆在这里了。 (Wǒ bù xiǎng jìxù dāi zài zhèlǐ le.) I don't want to stay here any longer. 继续 (jìxù) indicates a future continuation of the action, something that will continue on after this moment. 这场雨持续了多久? (Zhè chǎng yǔ chíxù le duōjiǔ?) How long has it been raining? 持续 (chíxù) indicates an ongoing continuance of the action.
