hi salvador, 教 (jiāo/jiào) is first tone when used as a verb, fourth tone when used in a noun. But not second tone.

hi rsmith91, The measure word is used here because it is actually just the shortened form of: 打一个电话 (dǎ yī ge diànhuà) make a call The measure word can be omitted in this case. 你给他打个电话· (Nǐ gěi tā dǎ ge diànhuà) 给 (gěi) means 'to give', so the sentence means 'give him a call'

hi rr2000, Maybe this comparison will help you to see the difference: 你打过本垒打吗？ (Nǐ dǎguò běnlěi dǎ ma?) Have you hit a home run before? 打过。 (Dǎguò.) Yes, I have. 你是什么时候打的？ (Nǐ shì shénme shíhou dǎ de?) When did you hit one? 去年打的。 (Qùnián dǎ de.) I hit one last year.

hi emberswift, The Chinese equivalent of "I'll bet" is: 我打赌 wǒ dǎdǔ So you could say: 我打赌现在厨房一团糟，而且你也不打算马上收拾！ Wǒ dǎdǔ xiànzài chúfáng yītuánzāo, érqiě nǐ yě bù dǎsuan mǎshàng shōushi!) I'll bet that the kitchen is a total mess, and you don't plan on cleaning it up any time soon.
