Five years ago, a friend of mine went back to China. We were instant-messaging each other one day. He had just told me that he got his marriage certificate and confused the heck out of me. I was so used to the American way of couples announcing their engagement, followed later by a wedding ceremony. It took several exchanges of instant messages before I figured out the Mainland Chinese marriage custom. My friend didn't even have a wedding ceremony.

May 26, 2008 at 7:13 AMThe lesson reminded me of my last days in Chicago. 5 colleagues from China took me out for Yunnan food. One of them grew up in Shanghai. He was telling the whole group about his recent trip to the Charlotte office where he met one of our female Chinese colleagues. She refused to believe that he is from China because she insisted that his Mandarin doesn't sound right. He was so frustrated that he asked my four other Chicago Chinese colleagues what was wrong with his accent. There was nothing wrong. He must have caught our unique Charlotte Chinese colleague on a bad day. :D

He takes care of all of the 记者, thus scaring off all of the judges to declare Jiajia the Beauty Queen of the Century! :D Afterwards, John and Jenny starts a new lesson series called "The Ninja Beauty Pageant" where each beauty contestant has to show off her 厉害 ninja skills. ;)
