Jenny,

I think in China it's possible, though illegal, to work with any type of visa. I've been working with tourism, business, tourism, working, business, working visas one after the other without ever leaving the territory.

It's still possible to switch from any visa to any other without leaving China but you have to pay a huuuuuge amount of money to the right people (with the right guanxi).

I realized quickly that the Government policy actually encourages the use of unapropriate visas, of making fake diplomas, fake CVs, etc : by letting the rules so unclear and so lunatic. The same girl told us, at 2 weeks interval, first that our company could hire 3 foreigners, then the next time that we couldn't have any.

Too bad, I was already in China ! So we went for a business visa, 6 months, that we simply paid for.

This year, they asked the originals of the diplomas for changing my working permit. I so asked a letter from the Ministry itself explaining that, yes, I did graduate. But the letter didn't "look like" a diploma. So a nice lady made a fake pretty colorful piece a paper that she signed and stamped herself. They were very happy with it and even gave me back my Ministry letter.

If the visa chart and documents to provide was clear and unchanging once for all, we could follow the rules. I mean it. Being in a unlegal situation is ok as long as you don't have any problem. Last week I got my wallet stolen and if I had still been in a so-so visa situation, I would never have dared to go to the police station, meaning I couldn't get my bank cards renewed, etc.

I studied this lesson, and 3 days later, my wallet got stolen !

Thanks to the thief : good practice. Plus 3h in the police station, 3 in each bank, 2 on the phone and another one at the embassy... guashi, guashi !

And, please, no lesson about car crashes or sudden unexplanable disasters.

It's not gonna ever change your lives, but according to my dear other half, the beijing bus says :

"che1liang4 jin4zhan4

qing3 zhu4yi4 an1quan2"

车辆进站,请注意安全

che1liang4 stands for "vehicle". jin4zhan4 means "approaching station".

"vehicle approching, please watch out"

Changye,

your comment reminds me : I have a Qing Wen request !

well, I never know how to say plus, minus, equals, etc (well, that's also a weak point in English !) and that's pretty useful in my job, as in many...

there's a Saved by the Gong on the subject but it's an Upper and something easier on the basics (*+-=/) would be welcome...

A bon entendeur.

Yep. The record doesn't match the pdf.

Whatever !

Nice lesson but a little too short... I'm frustrated !

In Beijing the bus are saying something like "zhu4yi4an1quan2 注意安全" (and something before that I forgot)

"take care about safety" or something : can someone confirm/infirm ?
