January 22, 2012 at 3:46 PMDo we have a regular CNY thread? I didn't see one, so I'm just posting here. Besides the fire risks, I love the fireworks here. We still have 15 minutes to go, yet it sounds like a war zone out there. I'm in a 23 story apartment and the firworks are bouncing off my window!

December 6, 2011 at 11:02 AMSpeaking of safety on the freeways...
I was once driving with some friends to Zhoushan from Shanghai (and by driving I of course mean sitting in the back seat because, like some others mentioned, I'd rather avoid driving here all together). We came across this car that was driving in the wrong direction on the freeway. It was mid day, so I don't think he was drunk. My friends said it was more likely that he just missed his stop and turned around to avoid paying the toll fee. Thanksfully, we were out in the middle of nowhere, so there weren't many cars around, but still... I thought it was a bit over the top.

November 29, 2011 at 2:41 PMI don't see this as a poor translation because I see no difference in meaning between:
My job is very interesting
and
My job is really interesting.
真 would be more like,
My job is so(ooo) interesting.

November 20, 2011 at 8:45 AMSo are you saying that in the first six months you didn't use anything to wash your hair? Not even water? That is hardcore.

January 30, 2012 at 2:46 AMI'm curious about how the Northern Chinese view this topic. I know that in the North, 暖气 is very common. Do people still open the windows there too?
