I've actually spent time up in Jilin, Changchun...and my god, I love the Chinese there. It's the perfect balance between Beijinghua's sound and the official Mandarin, it's also really close to the official target for newscasters and whatnot. It's quite a bit different from the way Shanghai folks talk, they're pretty close to Taiwan in some ways, truth be told. Anyway, my hope is for the injection of some voices representing the roots and origin of putonghua as we know and love it！

July 23, 2010 at 4:05 PMWell, there's a difference between the dialect of Beijing, which is a true dialect and not in the sense that Shanghai hua is a "dialect" (it's not, it's a different language). So, someone speaking Putonghua with a Beijing accent, a Jilin accent, or a Harbin accent would be like the difference between British and Canadian English. But someone speaking with a Shanghaiese or Taiwanese accent is like a person speaking French accented English. It's a perfect analogy, because it's the exact same situation! The only difference is political, of course, but I don't care about politics, so~~
