February 28, 2011 at 5:16 AMI remember this one Australian guy in China, who did no kind of research before going there, was complaining to me about a Chinese girl who never responds to his "hello"; She just makes this "ng" sound.

February 16, 2011 at 4:52 PMI remember also saying, "金老師,週三有事情。給你我的課,可以嗎?“

February 16, 2011 at 4:45 PM每個班就是一群學生。比如說,王小毛是一年紀一班的,張三元是一年紀二班的,什麼的。還有,一年紀一班的學生整天都在一間教室,一年紀二班的整天都在另外一間教室,所以每節課換老師。
“班”有時候也可以是量詞,比如說:“你教幾班?”
“一年紀一到六班,二年紀一到六班,那一共十二班”

February 12, 2011 at 4:49 AMWhen some "students" invited me to a Chinese minority cultural show, I pretended I didn't speak English, and then I pretended to get angry (major face loss in public) because I couldn't find the Shanghai museum (which was true) and it was pouring rain and I had no umbrella. They led me to the museum, and they didn't get a mao out of me. That's one small victory for all of us who have ever gotten scammed.

February 11, 2011 at 5:07 PMinteresting, because the waiter in Hong Kong didn't offer us westerners to wash our bowls and chopsticks! I guess he figured if we don't know any better, then it'll save him the extra work.

February 10, 2011 at 6:43 AMI've heard of tea costing 900 yuan a pot at this chain in Wenzhou called 去茶去 (English name: Go Tea Go).
I bought some tea from some monks at a tea farm in Fujian province. The 红茶 was 50 kuai a jin and the 绿茶 was about 100. best tea ever.

February 10, 2011 at 6:36 AMI was surprised when I saw that in Hong Kong too, but the customers may have been from Guangdong, or that's just something that old Hong Kong people do.
I remember when we sat outdoors in Guangdong and we threw out the dirty 茶水 on the ground. I don't really mind the whole rinsing ritual so much.

March 17, 2011 at 2:28 PM誒,澳大利亞朋友,I listened to both examples several times, and I think it's just a coincidence. Besides, I think the extra syllable in this podcast sounded like "x", and the extra syllable in 中國通 sounded like "sh"
