February 9, 2011 at 7:00 AMWhat's everyone's experience with tea in China? I remember most places not having that courtesy tea in China, except in Guangdong. They usually served 开水kāishuǐ (hot water), if they did serve anything.

February 9, 2011 at 6:55 AMSome so-called trendy Americans are also calling them "gyoza" after the Japanese name which I discovered is written in Japanese as 餃子 when I was bored writing the bus and ran into this Japanese guy I knew who couldn't speak much English, and I just started writing all the Chinese characters I knew and when I wrote 餃子 he said, "gyoza"
Interesting that you consider guotie/potstickers as breakfast food, because I used to only eat them for dinner

January 30, 2011 at 9:28 AMthe name of my 外公 is 鄭軒/郑轩/zhèngxuān so I just added 龍 to make mine 鄭軒龍 just because I think the dragon is cool, and I'll never forget how to write it!
I've had confirmation from Dongbei to HK that it's a good name, so I'm sticking to it.

January 27, 2011 at 6:47 AMI think that would qualify, because you assume that no foreigner has been to China outside of Beijing or Shanghai. but come on, how can I not feel that way when me and my German ex-roommate walked into a school yard in some village and there was a head sticking out of literally every window in the building staring at us?
healing prayers? Western medicine? In the REAL China, 開水 heals all.
and I don't recommend you do that last thing you suggested. That couple would pass out, possibly die, from so much face.

January 26, 2011 at 6:51 AMIt was kind of weird when I left my 農村 on the occasional trips to Shanghai and I saw other foreigners there, and even some that could *gasp* speak better Chinese than me!
but yes, now that I'm back in the States, I annoyingly make it a point to say that I've actually been to China, and not just Beijing and Shanghai, but the real China. hahah ( evil laugh) ahaha!

February 10, 2011 at 6:24 AMyep, small town China (十万人口). When I ventured out to Shanghai, I would have Western food, go to hole-in-the-wall restaurants, or street food, so the whole tea situation did not apply.
