Hi bodawei

You are right. Some sounds (and tones) in Chinese dialects can't be represented by Hanyu pinyin system. They are usually transcribed with IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet). Hanyu Pinyin was made for (ideal) putonghua.

Hi alexyzye

Hanyu Pinyin was invented mainly for purspose of learning putonghua pronunciations. Conversely speaking, it may be said that Chinese people don't need Pinyin, in so far as they only learn local/dialect pronunciations. That said, Pinyin has already become a very convinient tool for inputting Chinese characters, so, in any case, modern Chinese people need to learn Hanyu Pinyin.

Hi bababardwan

I shouldn't have confessed my trick. Let me make a wild guess.

She is 王菲's baby girl.

Hi bababardwan

I'm not clever enough to be able to tell who the baby is, but clever enough to check the property of the photo. To tell you the truth, at first I thought the baby was 胡锦涛 (Hu Jintao), hehe.

"有名" is most commonly used among the three, and it can modify both positive and negative persons/things. 知名 and 著名 are more formal than 有名, and they are mainly used for something positive. 著名 has the most strong meaning among them.

Hi mmsans

They say both 埋单 and 买单 originate in Cantonese (广东话), and their meanings were originally slightly different from each other, although now the two words are usually used in the sense of "pay a restaurant bill" in putonghua.
