Hi shenyajin

“Kokia”, 我第一次听这个日本女歌手的名字。我这个岁数的人根本就跟不上流行,不知道现在什么歌曲在日本受欢迎。我平时爱听的都是熟耳的“老歌”。听过去的流行歌曲让我怀念青春的日子,更何况是日本动漫主题歌!

Hi mmsans

Both tones are OK. It depends on which character, (mai2) and (mai3), you usually use for the word "mai单". I prefer to say "mai3dan1" as it's easier for me to pronounce than mai2dan1.

Hi pnolan

Your little girl is very lovely. And my chubby dog seems to be interested in the dogs (?) in the photo.

Hi kimiik

Thanks a lot for a nice piece of information. I've found a relevant news article. Times have changed.

Hi kimiik

Of course, it's not politically correct. Actually Hanyu Pinyin is just an extention of 拉丁化新文字. Thankfully, the CCP adopted the Latin alphabets, but not Cirillic alphabet, despite of the fact that they received assistance from Russian scholars. In contrast, Mongolia, which became independent with the help of the USSR, adopted Cirillic alphabet for writing their language in 1941.

Hi rjberki

Chinese children often mix pinyin and Chinese characters, justl like "今天我du子teng", when writing someting. Actually it's impossible for them to "spell" all the characters they want to use. So it may be said that Hanyu Pinyin are a kind of "characters" for Chinese children. Thankfully, we foreign learners usually don't have to do this owing to computers.

Hi calkins

Thanks a lot for the great information on Hanyu Pinyin in Taiwan. Judging from the info, it looks like that bomopofo is still enjoying its stable status as an input method in Taiwanese society. Probably it's not easy to abandon something linguistic you learned at primary school.

Hi bodawei

does anyone know more to the story about making the language easier to learn?

At first, 毛泽东 (Mao Zedong) proposed to abolish Chinese characters completely and romanize Chinese language, and the Hanyu Pinyin was meant to be the first step toward his ultimate purpose. But later his radical plan was abandaned, fortunately. 周恩来 (Zhou Enlai) officially announced in 1958 that Hanyu Pinyin is NOT a replacement for Chinese characters, but is a phonetic notation that was made for disseminating putonghua.

Hi shenyajin

我很高兴听到你现在学习日语!日语发音简单,语法不难,敬语较难,日语中汉字的读法超难,一个汉字有好几种读法,简直可以用“乱七八糟”来形容。有些人名和地名连日本人都无法猜测如何读,你经常碰到让人出乎意料的读法。话虽这么说,我还是觉得学习德语的门槛比日语高得多。我向毛主席保证,你肯定学会日语的。祝你学习日语顺利!
