Hi Tarcy

"到底" is used in the sense "what on earth, ever, exactly, really, actually etc.", as raygo explained above, when the word is used in an interrogative sentence. On the other hand, in an affirmative sentece, 到底 usually means "finally, in the end". Here are some example sentences.

我想了好久,到底明白了。
经过一番曲折,事情到底成功了。
他沉默了半天,到底开了口。

Hi dahaka

Hi tarcy

你最近在哪儿自己偷偷学中文呢?Zhenlijiang和我都想死你了!对了,我记得你以前说过“学德语很有意思”。你的德语有进步吗?怎样才能克服学“形容词变化”的困难?Tarcy女士,请多多指教。

我也挺喜欢徐先生的声音和他说话的样子,我看ChinesePod确实拥有很多人才。不过我还是更喜欢听女老师们讲课,因为我是男人!ChinesePod如果提供男用和女用两种课程就好了。

Hi dahaka

Dahaka 同学, 你完全误会了。那个帖子里中文部分既不是 bendidelaowai 自己写的文章也不是她本人的看法,而只是一个中国人在优酷网上发的帖子。我劝你三思而行,批评别人之前再仔细看看帖子吧。还有,“比较爱国的一个高中生” 也得懂点英语,对不对?

I have a question, on youku there is a comment left:

简直就是俗不可耐, 卑鄙无耻, 我的孩子,哪一年都会学赵本山的无聊笑语, 骗人,忽悠人还说是和赵本山学的,,,我不明白为什么他这种人年年上春晚,中国人就这素质吗? ........(以下省略)

我家的小胖狗同志今年七岁了,她最近宣布打算活到十六岁。其实我以前在日本养过的一只西施犬活到了十六岁,真是长寿啊!

Hi calicartel

The phrase “我的青春小鸟” is the subject of the expansion sentence, and this connotes something like "my bird-like youth", which was translated as "My youth has gone like a bird, ~" in the expansion section.

Hi bababardwan

You have no need to feel small when posting in English in advanced/media lesson forums. Chinese comments posted by us non-native learners don't come with "guarantee", as everybody knows. It's inevitable that there're some (or many) grammatical mistakes, typos, and unnatural expressions in them, and it's not easy for us learners to exactly tell which are mistakes and unnatural phrases.

Frankly speaking, these Chinese comments are not necessarily educational/beneficial for other poddies. After all, posting in Chinese is mainly for "self-practice" and "showing off your achievement", which I think is very important in learning foreign languages. There is absolutely no reason that English comments are not welcome here. I don't understand why some poddies ask other people to post only in Chinese here. Just nonsense.
