March 29, 2009 at 3:10 AM"坏，破，碎，断" are both transitive and intransitive verbs. You can make them "clear" transitive verbs by adding 弄 (nong4) in front of them, just like
弄坏 / 我把电脑弄坏了。
弄破 / 我把衣服弄破了。
弄碎 / 我把杯子弄碎了。
弄断 / 我把骨头弄断了。

现代汉语词典 (and all of my Chinese dictionaries) only shows 把 (ba3, handle/haft) as a measure word for 刀 (dao1, knife). I don't think 一只刀 is commonly used in Chinese. That said, if there is a pair of knives .... hehe.

I agree with you. The grammatical structure of "我(用)筷子用得好不好?" is the same as that of "他（说）汉语说得好不好？", for example. The first verbs, (用) and (说), are often dropped.

Thanks for the funny video. My chubby dog can't use chopsticks, however it's not necessarily a bad thing for her. If she could, I'm sure she would become more obese! So I didn't let her see the video, hehe.

The traditional forms of 双 and 只 more clearly show the meanings of the characters. As you know, the measure word 只 indicates one of a pair (and animals). So what was thrown at Mr.Bush was 一只鞋 (a shoe), but not 一双鞋 (a pair of shoes).
雙 (双) two birds (隹x2) on a hand (又), 一双鞋 (xie2)
隻 (只) one bird （隹） on a hand (又), 一只鞋 (xie2)

“该说的”这个词的意思差不多等于“想要说的”，所以前者并没有“被强迫”的含义。“该说的都说了”只不过是一种固定说法而已。
