March 6, 2009 at 11:31 AMThe Chinese word 故人 also means "person who died" depending on circumstances. It's interesting to know that the same word has two meanings such as "old friend" and "the deceased" at the same time, which is a little confusing for us foreign learners.

Thanks for the discussion on 再点些香肠, which has been on my mind since I read bodawei's comment. I've had no time to join this thread as I've been VERY busy posting comments in "日本动漫", haha.
I have a question. What is a Chinese phrase you usually say when you want to order sausage again? Of course, you can say 香肠再来点儿吧 or 再来点儿香肠吧. Now, how about "再点些香肠吧" ? Is this also OK?
Probably I'm obsessing over nothing. In any case, your sausage will be certainly served, unless you mispronounce "香肠". Incidentally, there is another interesting usage of 再, which means "and then".
你已经点好菜了吗？(Have you already ordered?)
我待会儿再点菜。 (I'll order later).

I also enjoyed cosplay (costume play) at a high school festival more than 30 years ago. Cosplay has a long history in Japan, haha. All my classmates cosplayed as well known anime characters then. I cosplayed as "Rainbowman", a Japanese super hero.

Why don't you try cosplaying? I believe that Sailor Moon (美少女战士) would be the best one for you!

Your comment reminded me of a symphonic poem by Gershwin, 《一个美国人在巴黎》 (An American in Paris). I've never seen the movie with the same title, though.

Sorry, I know nothing about the 半人类传奇. I could find only a online novel with the same title. As for 半人类， maybe "the wolf man (狼人)" is also one of 半人类, isn't he?

March 6, 2009 at 8:21 AMHere is the first Chinese animated feature film 《西游记/铁扇公主》 made in 1941, as one of the anti-Japanese war propaganda films. I must say its quality is NOT BAD. On the contrary, it's excellent for its time, although I guess it was made mainly by tracing live actions, because the characters move too smoothly.

Ironically enough, Chinese people can much more easily enjoy watching Japanese anime, free of charge (and with Chinese subtitles), than Japanese, owing to a lot of illegal download sites such as 土豆网 and 优酷网 in China. Some Japanese companies made a complaint against Chinese authorities, and some download sites have recently began to block access from Japan, which is not a fundamental solution, of course. Anyway, thanks to these sites, I can enjoy Japanese anime here in China, haha.

Gundam has three different Chinese transliterations, 钢弹 mainly used in Taiwan, 高达 in 香港，and 敢达 in the PRC (according Wiki). That said, actually 高达 is most commonly used here in mainland. Anyway, "unification" does not seem to be so easy, haha.
