How interesting! There are the same sayings both in Chinese and in Japanese, "投珠与豕" （tou2 zhu1 yu3 shi3） and "豚に真珠" (buta-ni-shinju) respectively, although I don't think the Chinese version is frequently used in modern China. Japanese people really love this saying.

Haha, please be careful not to lose a friend! I think that "不爽" is a very good word that implies "grumpy". Actually, I didn't know that the word would be used to describe a person's character. I only used it before like this, 洗完桑拿后喝冰镇扎啤，太爽快！

Thanks for the chengyu "对牛弹琴" that is completely new to me. Interestingly, some dairy farmers let their milk cows listen to music for higher milk yield. I hear that cows like Mozart best. They have good taste in music!

One of my dictionaries says "机" means "a crucial point/turning point". Examples are; 军机，机密，转机，生机.

Actually, the word "grumpy" might be a bit difficult to translate into Chinese. As Pete said, I also think there is no perfect translation, as is always the case. To tell you the truth, I don't even know the exact nuance of "grumpy" in English, hehe. Let me show you some words that "approximately" mean a "grumpy, strange, difficult" person respectively. In the case you feel "not enough", please use all of them at a time.
他脾气很坏。他性格很怪。他很难对付。
