December 14, 2007 at 7:09 AMSlightly off topic. 西藏文字是七世纪以印度的梵字为基础创造的。 后来十三世纪的时候一位叫八思巴的西藏高僧 在蒙古大汗忽必烈的命令下模仿参考西藏文字 而创制出了一套被称为八思巴文字的表音文字。 到了十五世纪朝鲜民族总算创造了自己的文字。 其倡导者世宗大王的列传世宗实录中这么写着， 是月上亲制谚文二十八字训民正音其字仿古篆。 有些学者推断古人仿效的古篆就是八思巴文字。

December 14, 2007 at 4:45 AM中国有三个我一直很想去旅游的地方。 一个是因秦始皇兵马俑而驰名的西安， 其次是因殷墟甲骨文字而有名的安阳， 然后是因西藏布达拉宫而闻名的拉萨。 但第三个梦想实现的可能性微乎其微。 拉萨平均海拔高度为三千七百米左右， 几乎同日本最高峰富士山海拔一样高。 我这个很懒的中老年人平时不爱运动， 到了拉萨我就肯定要得严重的高山病。 弄不好的话西藏僧人会为我举办葬礼。

December 13, 2007 at 12:09 PMI have been trying to find a proper Chinese word for “presentation” since yesterday. I think 演示 is not so bad, however it might be “demonstration” rather than “presentation”. I also found 发表, 说明, and 报告 in my dictionaries, but they are mere poor explanations and far from the image/notion of the word “presentation”. In Japan, people just say プレゼンテーション (pu-re-zen-tei-shon) or its shortened form プレゼン (pu-re-zen). Korean people also use a transliterated word 프레젠테이션. I feel somewhat relieved to know even China, the home of Chinese characters, has never invented a precise equivalent word for “presentation” so far.

December 12, 2007 at 5:48 AMHi ooka, In modern Japanese, “坐” is very rarely used and it is not included in the 常用漢字表 (a national list of kanji for common use) that contains about 2,000 Chinese characters, therefore “ここにお座りください” would be highly recommended. By the way, just for information, “坐” is not a simplified form of “座”. Both of them are listed separately in 古代汉语字典.

December 12, 2007 at 4:04 AM日本人早已放弃了用汉字翻译外来语， 现在大半都是用片假名来音译过来的。 其优点就是几乎没有用字混乱的现象， 再加上你能很容易辨别哪个是外来语。 最大缺点是你不懂英语就不懂外来语， 反过来说懂英文就能推测单词的意思。 我每次在中文里遇到外来语词的时候， 不禁对汉字具有的极强造语力很佩服。 还有其表意性让人容易理解学术用语， 比如说古生物学或者人类学这些单词 表示的意思连小学生都能轻易想像到。 与此相反它们的英语对应词很难看懂。 古生物学 paleontology 人类学 anthropology
