In Japan, it is said that a building company generally begins to decline after the construction of its own new office building. I feel hesitated to 上传 (chuan2) /上载 (zai4) this poorly tasted joke. I always thank Chinesepod!

Hi aert, Ironically enough, I have been a sci-fi fan and yearned for outer space since I was a child despite my abhorrence of flying on a plane. I am dying to get onboard USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D), but NOT Boeing 787, let alone Tupolev, Ilyushin, and Antonov. Hi auntie68, Confucianism puts great importance on ancestor worship. Losing your young children means that your family will have no direct descendant to visit family graves, which is deemed significant disrespect to ancestors. I don’t think there is big difference in the depth of grief when parents lose their children, but in China you might be able to find a little different (or Confucian) aspect of the meaning of losing children. Just a guess. By the way, in Japan people often use the phrase “as silent as a funeral”, but on the contrary, you can see a lot of people crying loud at funeral services in China. The louder you cry, the more respectful toward a person who died. Surprisingly, “crying” is just a kind of business in modern China. So called “professional criers” are sometimes hired by the host of a funeral to impress attendants. I don’t know whether or not their ancestors notice that. Hi boboyoru, 我很高兴你小伙子终于回来了。 看起来你家小狗狗也是老样子。 跟你完全相反我特别喜欢飞机 着陆接触地面瞬间的那个感觉。

Things tend to be a little extreme in China. Needless to say, too much MSG has been “traditionally” used in Chinese cuisine. Let me give you another example. Japanese horseradish paste (wasabi) sold in China is unbelievably hot compared to those in Japan. It is the same for mustard. What is worse is that local people do not hesitate to use exceed-the-critical-mass wasabi when they eat sashimi or sushi. From my own limited experience, I must say that is just suicidal. Too much is as bad as too little, and using nothing is often much better than too much.

More words for eager learners. “受” is a little similar to “授”, but they have opposite meanings, “receive” and “grant”. 受精 (shou4 jing1) fertilization 授精 (shou4 jing1) insemination

MSG was discovered in 1908 by Kikunae Ikeda, a Japanese chemistry professor at Tokyo University. The substance was initially extracted from a kind of kelp. I do not know if the discovery was good or bad…………

Hi goulniky, I’m afraid your translation might need some modifications. I’ve found the followings in a textbook.
