October 2, 2007 at 11:46 PMDouble eyelid surgery is still understandable to me, but grinding jaw / cheek bone is completely beyond my comprehension. Owing to kyle, I learned a few interesting things today. I found “rhino” means “nose” in Greek, and “rhinoceros” is rhino(nose) + ceros(horn)! The etymology of an English word seems intriguing.

October 2, 2007 at 9:02 AMHi nicolas, I know you have limited time, as you said two days ago. I fear that you are just wasting your precious time by butting into other people’s learning style and method. You might as well concentrate on learning ON YOUR TERMS.

October 2, 2007 at 3:18 AMThe word 人造美女 makes me bring up the image of a cyborg such as The Bionic Woman.

October 2, 2007 at 2:40 AMHi henning, > double/inner/triple eyelid.. You might as well ask your wife about those terms only if you're brave enough to do so.

October 2, 2007 at 2:10 AMHi henning, > One final tip : Absolutely avoid talking to natives. > Because that is when confustion kicks in. Good job, very hilarious! This is surely the best joke I have ever heard here in Cpod.

October 1, 2007 at 12:35 PMHi nicolas, If you really want only sterile bug-free authentic Chinese, 人民日报 might be one of the bests for you. Fortunately, its administrators are diligently struggling to control their forums and are pleased to delete “inappropriate” comments. By the way, could it be that you don’t like to consult Wikipedia for more or less similar reasons that you skip some postings written by podders who you think are fallible...? p.s. Here are some presents for you! http://chinesepod.com/learnchinese/li-yans-diary-love-and-italian-food/discussion

October 1, 2007 at 10:25 AMI love Superman very much. I saw all the film series including the latest one starring Brandon Routh. I felt sad when Christopher Reeve passed away. Krypton = 强氧(yang3) Supergirl = 女超人

October 1, 2007 at 4:08 AMHi nicolas, Here are some Warning Messages to Chinesepodders, which I created for nicolas. I sincerely hope they would meet your high requirements. 1. DO NOT post any comments which contain answers, advices, and tips regarding Chinese language unless you are a member of the administration of Chinesepod. 2. DO NOT post any comments which contain not less than two lines of Chinese, including pinyins, unless you are a member of the administration of Chinesepod. 3. DO NOT post any comments which contain non Chinese-language-related statements of opinion such as banter, joke, sarcasm, adulation, and compliment. Supplementary Explanation: 1 and 2 : Self-assessed skill levels are not reliable. Even so-called advanced learners may possibly make mistakes. There are also doubts as to the authenticity of self-declared native Chinese speakers. You must be careful. 3 : As nicolas said, time is limited and precious, therefore those kinds of comments are nothing more than waste of time and space for ardent Chinese-learners.

October 3, 2007 at 3:30 AMMy beloved dog is too fat, but she always insists that she is just pleasantly plump or chubby, NOT fat. When I said “我的小狗很胖” before, one of my Chinese friends corrected me. I should have said “很肥 (fei2)” for animals, although my FAT dog prefer 胖 rather than 肥.
