February 21, 2010 at 3:27 AM我也有同样的感觉。在我的城市里,这几年来街上放炮的小孩子越来越少,我家的小狗当然很高兴,大年三十晚上放鞭炮也没有以前那么厉害。好像中国人比以前“文明”多了,哈哈。

It seems to me that you shouldn't have come here. As the saying goes, "what you don't know can't hurt you", hehe.

I guess it's not so easy even for native guys to tell you what a given Chinese dish is like. "Trial and error" or "go for broke" might be best strategies for you, hehe.

I don't have much interest in the names of dishes I can't afford to eat, hehe.

I'd like to recommend you read other people's comments more carefully before criticizing them. Otherwise, you might just end up embarrassing yourself in public.
Just for your information, the Chinese part in the above long comment posted by bababardwan is originally written by a native Chinese guy. Click the link to see it.

February 19, 2010 at 9:15 AMHi pretzellogic
As you already know, "地" indicates "ground, land, earth", so “地图” literally means "land map". Specifically speaking, “地滑” is short for "地面很滑" or something like that.

February 19, 2010 at 5:05 AM"小心地滑" (xiao3xin1di4hua2) is one of the most commonly seen warnings in the PRC. It meas " Caution, the floor is slippery!" (小心/地滑), but not "slip carefully" (小心地/滑), hehe.

“度” (degree) itself is something like a measure word in Chinese, so you don't need to add another measure word to it. For example, just saying "零下十度" (minus ten degrees) is enough.
