I agree with changye flatscreen TV (平板电视) can be either LCD TV (液晶电视）or Plasma TV（等离子电视).
(not the other way round as in the dialogue)
I think in the dialogue, the vendor should ask the buyer whether he would like to buy a flatscreen TV which could be either a LCD or Plasma TV. And from there CPod can then introduce the term 液晶电视 and 等离子电视 to clear the confusion.
