March 4, 2012 at 7:49 AMI suspect it's just for those taxis they introduced just before the Expo, i.e. the ones with the higher wheel base. I can't imagine it would be too easy to add wheelchair access to the santana fleet.

February 25, 2012 at 9:53 AMI think it might be 留着的 (liuzhe de), the liu indicating "still remaining, still left", i.e. the shells are still remaining when you buy these seeds in China. I'm not so sure about the zhe. I agree it sounds more like jue, but i can't find any characters that fit. The zhe perhaps means the shells are in the continuous state of remaining... Hopefully a better qualified person responds soon!

February 25, 2012 at 6:02 AMA question on the ba3 structure. In the Grammar tab, we have the formula:-
把 (bǎ) N/Pronoun V [other]
It is the [other] that I often struggle with. The Grammar tab goes on to say that the [other] usually takes the form of a resultative or directional complement. I'm most familiar with using this structure when asking someone to put something somewhere else, e.g. put the book on the table (把那本书放在桌子上). In this example, the [other] is the 在桌子上, i.e. a directional complement.
What I am getting confused about is whether the [other] can simply be a 了 on its own. From this lesson's dialogue, I assume this must be ok, since in Greg's first sentence we have 你怎么把窗户打开了。
I guess my question really boils down to this: if a 把 sentence is incorrect if there is no [other] after the verb, can we always simply throw in a 了 after the verb to make the sentence correct if we can't think of anything else to put there?

In terms of the other comments above, I am also based in SH and usually have no problem with the audio regardless of using VPN or not. However, I have noticed during the last 5 days that my work laptop (without VPN) has really struggled with your s3.amazon links. I have tried the office network connection, my home wifi and various cafes around the city, but all have failed. It is only with my home laptop with VPN that I have managed to listen to anything. Perhaps it is just a china telecom issue in SH this past week.
