January 24, 2012 at 10:51 AMI was a little confused by johns comments. I have a 50rmb 500mb monthly plan with China mobile for my HTC desire android device. I use internet fine with it and to me it seems quite fast although not as fast as WiFi. Based on johns comments does this mean it is not 3G? How am I able to use internet with an Android device with China mobile? Or is this just a naming thing ie China mobile does actually have 3G but they don't call it 3G. If so, whose "3G" is faster, Unicom or China mobile?

January 8, 2012 at 2:26 PMAmesburygeorge, just a heads up in case you weren't aware, Chinese New Year is very early this year, falling on 23 Jan. I don't know what cpod's holiday policy is, but I suspect their office will be closed during the last week in Jan. On the upside though, I enjoy Shanghai during the CNY holiday, it just feels a bit quieter and easier to get around. Also the fireworks are phenomenal, if a bit tiring after the first few days!

January 24, 2012 at 11:24 AMThanks podster. You clearly know your stuff! So, from a layman's point of view, basically China Mobile's TD-SCDMA is equivalent to 3G and it is simply a case of whether your handset manufacturer built in a receiver for it (i just looked at my settings which seem to suggest that HTC has an auto detect function which switches between all your acronyms mentioned above)? Is it any better or worse than Unicom's version, do you know?
