trevlu,

ha, that started with the Michael jackson episode last week.  we had fun with it.  We figured if we can teach grammar patterns and make it fun, then go with it.

My girl...great song.  Its a strecth, but Ill promise to at least take a look on how we can try and spin that into a grammar point.

and,  my old man still threatens to take me out of his will if i continue the sips.  And i currently have dibs on the '57 T-bird

Dear Dave,
I appreciate your feedback and your passion for excellent instruction. The Lesson/Channels page has clear descriptions of what you can expect from each channel. (link)
In this case, Upper Intermediate lessons are mostly in Chinese, with English for clarification,
and Advanced lessons are exclusively in Chinese.
This is an instructional decision we have made, and it is in line with the thousands of educational institutions which also advocate and practice the teaching of advanced levels of language exclusively in the target language. Here is the explanation in Chinese followed by my translation into english for you, and italiced a couple points that contradict what you wanted out of advanced. We hope this clarifies things.

高级中文课程将带你进入一个全中文的学习世界。在这里,你将接触到更多更广的中文话题,Jenny和其他中国主持人将全程用中文和大家交流。你可以在这里学习到原汁原味的中文口语对话,所有重要的语言点以及少量的成语都由简单明了的中文来解释。你还可以在这里用中文和本地人交流,发表中文评论,全中文的语言环境将更好地帮助你形成说中文的习惯。

the advanced chinese curriculum will bring you to a world of learning in full chinese.  here, you come into contact with a wide variety of topics., where Jenny and her chinese host will completley use chinese in their exchanges.  here you can study authentic spoken chinese conversation, with simple and clear chinese explanations of significant language points as well as a small amount of chengyu.  here you also can exchange comments with native speakers using chinese.  having a environment that only uses chinese will help you to better shape your spoken chinese abilities.

The errors should all be uploaded this week.  I can assure you these were not intentional mistakes.  I personally went through every country to verify current recognized name and flags, and made the appropriate changes.  Ill make a posting when the upload is completed.

You made a basket! 进球 jìnqiú  [lit: enter ball]

You missed! 没进 méijìn [lit: no enter]

Nice try! 下一次 xiàyīcì [lit: next time]

Go to the new Olympic site for more basketball and other sport related words.

maoxian,

there really isn't an equivalent to bless-you/gedundheit/salut ect. in China.  You may get a playfull response much like in this diaolog, but that of course would only happen with someone you really know.  i had a month or so here when my allergies were acting up, and the general response after a couple sneezes was "ni gan mao ma?" Are you sick?

pchenery,

HSK, like the dialog mentions, has a lot of value just in the act of preparation.  In fact, i know people who take it for that very reason.  Sometimes when learning a language, there is no quantifiable goal, and this fills that void, and really motivates you to study and get a high mark. And the obvious result is that your chinese becomes better.

My old girlfriend used to hate "oriental" as well.  She would say, "Rugs are oriental, people are asian".

next time you are in shanghai, you can come take my place for one QW, how bout that?
